Account book. 1847.

Fragment of a manuscript account book kept at the Hancock, Mass., Shaker community. Many of the entries have to do with Shaker transactions with the World, including buying a cow for cash, molasses, shovels, etc. In February 1847, the Shakers purchased crockery from L. Pomoroy & Sons, seemingly a favorite business contact, and sold brooms for cash. The rest of this account book is at the Hancock, Mass., Shaker community; the Andrews Collection has a photocopy. Many of its pages have been pasted over with newspaper clippings of poetry and religious and inspirational writings.
